After a year that's challenged our psychological, physical and social wellbeing in life and work, resilience has become the watchword for HR and business leaders around the world. We partnered with WELCOA (the Wellness Council of America) to examine the state of workplace resilience and explore how employers can future-proof their organizations for what could be a mental health pandemic.

In essence, resilience is what gives people the psychological strength to cope with stress and hardship. The global pandemic, economic downturn, racial injustice, and political upheaval has proved a lot for people to cope with in the last year.

Meanwhile, at one time or another, we've all had to contend with back-to-back video conferences, fluctuating workloads, and jittering internet connections. The parents among us have needed to cut meetings short to tend to the whims of infants in immediate need of attention. We've had reason to concern over our physical, mental, and social wellbeing, and that of our friends and family. As a result of all this, burnout has become a widespread concern whose consequence can mean far worse than absenteeism and employee churn.

We partnered with WELCOA to explore the state of workplace resilience through one of the most turbulent years in living memory. Our aim is to draw attention to the needs of both employees and employers, and to offer practical guidance on how to create more mentally healthy workplaces. To capture a multi-dimensional perspective, we surveyed 1,000 employees and 228 employers. Here's what we found.
